Web Design
Every web site has purpose and a target audience. Identifying both of these things before developing a web site will help produce a better site.
Other characteristics of a good site include:
- Usability: Sites that are easy to use have obvious navigation, clear layout and precise language.
- Accessibility: Visitors to a web site are vast and unpredictable: some are visually impaired, listening to a site through a screen reader, while others are viewing the site with a Palm Pilot. It is critical to reach every visitor to a web site by having an accessible web site handle these situations gracefully.
- Balance: Sites that balance graphics, images and style with purpose. Most visitors come to a site to find information or accomplish a task and shouldn't be delayed because of overwhelming "style".
